100 shops that pledged to 'My Shopping My Bag' initiative honoured by CCMC

At the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Commissioner Dr .Vijaya Karthikeyan today officially announced the list of the one-hundred commercial establishments who are a part of the 'My Shopping My Bag' initiative. During this interaction he interacted with the owners and representatives who have volunteered to refrain from using shopping bags in their respective commercial establishments.

Small, medium and large commercial establishments have signed a declaration form promising to refrain from using plastic bags in their respective establishments. As a token of appreciation, the commissioner also handed over a certificate to the volunteers.

“Our aim must be to make our Coimbatore a plastic bag free city. We must consciously become a part of this initiative. My Shopping My Bag is not an initiative just for the owners and traders of commercial establishments. But the customers too must consciously give up using plastic bags when they go shopping. They must inculcate the habit of carrying their own eco-friendly shopping bags. Volunteers, environmentalists, heads and representatives of NGOs have worked hard in educating and creating awareness to the public in this regard.”  said Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan.
