A special celebration for children with special needs!

Amrit Centre For Special Needs' joined hands with city-based 'Baptist Matriculation School' in Veerapandi Pirivu to celebrate this Children’s Day.

Amrit centre came into being 53-years ago and it enrols specially blessed children from the age of 0 onwards. During it's budding stages, only a handful of children were enrolled here. About five years ago, Nalini Jayaprakash took over as Principal this centre and presently there are about 140.

This morning, Amrit Centre For Special Needs celebrated Children’s Day at their centre. The children from the Baptist Matriculation School were initially sceptical about interacting and mingling with the kids of Amrit Centre. However, after a while,  the kids broke the ice and they bonded well with children from this centre.

Speaking to SimpliCity on the sidelines of the Children’s Day celebrations, Nalini Jayaprakash said “All of our 140 odd kids are talented in one way or the other. Based on their talents and the skill set that they possess, we have involved each of the kids in one activity or the other like fancy dress, one-minute game, relay, cultural performance, drinking the maximum tumblers of water and so on today as part of the celebrations. The aim of our centre is to make the children self dependent by training them in vocational streams so that when they turn 18, they are able to manage on their own” Nalini said.

G. Daniel is glad that the kids from his school bonded well the children from the Amrit Centre. “Children from Amrit Centre are strong. They have faced hardships and fought challenges in life to reach where they are.“
