Railway tickets booked between Nov 9 and 11 for Rs 10,000 and above won’t be refunded in cash

The railway ministry has issued a circular saying tickets worth Rs 10,000 and above booked between November 9 and 11 will not be refunded over the counter in cash. People who have booked such tickets will have to file a TDR (ticket deposit receipt) and get the refund through bank transfer or cheques.

The revision of the refund rule comes after there was the suspicion that several people had booked tickets using the unaccounted money only to cancel them in order to get valid currencies, without being tracked.

The ministry circular to all zones says such tickets should be refunded through the filing of TDR on surrendering the original ticket half an hour before departure of the train for RAC and waitlisted tickets and four hours before departure for confirmed tickets.
