In an indication of growing public opposition to the proposed steel flyover, filmmaker Pawan Kumar's short movie contest has received 280 entries on Thursday, the last day to receive the same.
Pawan announced the contest on November 1 and invited one-minute short films themed on Steel Bridge Yake Beda (why the steel bridge is not needed). The director of U Turn fame uploaded his own short film on YouTube on November 1 that got 23,328 views so far.
Enthused by the response, Pawan is now planning to hold a screening of 25 selected short films. "It was less of a competition and more to create awareness. Some of the films are so well-made that we are now thinking of screening them in a theatre," he said. He is reviewing the entries with filmmaker and activist Prakash Belawadi.
Makers of the three best short films will get an opportunity to work in Pawan's direction department in his next film. Pawan said students, software professionals and other enthusiasts were among the participants. The winners will be announced in a couple of days.
CoF team meets Shettar
Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) representatives, including Naresh Narasimhan, Srinivas Alavilli and Tara Krishnaswamy, met opposition BJP leader Jagadish Shettar on Thursday to discuss the steel flyover. The team requested the BJP legislature party to pass a resolution opposing the flyover and issue a public statement. Shettar promised to raise the issue in the ensuing assembly session," the representatives said.
