'Roads dug for embedding cables will be intimated via CCMC's website', says Special Officer

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Special Officer Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan chaired a meeting today to discuss measures to be taken to avoid digging newly laid roads in connection with embedding pipelines by electricity and telecom departments. Both the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have plans of embedding underground power cables and optic fibre optic cables respectively in most parts of the city.

Special officer Dr. Vijayakarthikeyan said “Digging of roads for laying optical fibre optic cables by BSNL and laying of power cables by TNEB results in disfigurement of the newly laid roads. Repeated digging cause huge inconvenience for the motorist and pedestrians. Hence, it is necessary that the officials of BSNL and TNEB co-ordinate and stay informed with each other while carrying out cable works. By this way, digging the same roads twice could be avoided. Those roads where cable laying works are in progress or due along with details of works carried out will be hosted in the CCMC's official website.”

Assistant Corporation Commissioner Gandhimathi, Corporation Engineer Rajendran, BSNL Zonal Engineer Kolanji, TNEB Executive Engineer Ramachandran and Senior Officials from TNEB and BSNL departments participated in the discussion session.
