Hospitals, Airlines and Railway Booking Counters to accept old notes: Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that hospitals, railway, bus and airlines ticket counters will continue to accept Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 old notes till the next 72 hours. Prime Minister Modi announced these measures to smoothen the transition process of his major step for curbing the menace of black money in the country.

According to the Prime Minister, the people friendly measures will minimise the inconvenience of the government's decision to withdraw Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 denomination notes from Tuesday midnight. He said that for the next 72 hours, government hospitals will continue to accept old Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes.

The Prime Minister elaborated that for the next 72 hours, railway ticket booking counters, ticket counters of government buses and airline ticket counters at airports will accept old notes for purchase of tickets.

Even petrol pumps, diesel and gas stations authorised by public sector oil companies, consumer co-operative stores authorised by state or central government, milk booths authorised by state governments, crematoriums and burial grounds will continue to accept the old notes.
