Vellalore dumpyard is where all wasted collected from various wards in the city are been dumped and segregated. In the intent of making the dumpyard eco-friendly and to utilise the acres of empty land surrounding the yard in an useful manner, the City corporation has come up with a much-needed initiative to plant trees around the surrounding.

CCMC in association with G.E and Siruthuli has plans of transforming the Vellalore dumpyard into a eco-friendly place. Special Officer, Vijayakarthikeyan along with Rapid Force Action (RAF) and representatives of Siruthuli today planted close to 15,000 saplings in the empty space at the dumpyard. It is noted that already 8000 saplings are planted and maintained at this wastage segregation site. The saplings were duly planted in a 3 metre gap with drip irrigation facility.

'Planting trees around the dumpyard would immensely help in transforming it into an eco-friendly place. And especially during rainy seasons the trees drastically would help to reduce soil erosion and will aid in rain waters penetrate the soil.  Once the trees grow up, such large volumes of trees planted might help get rains, in future' said Special Officer Vijayakarthikeyan.

Founder and Managing Trustee of Siruthuli Vanitha Mohan. Commandant, Jayakumar, Assistant Commandant Anitha Devi along with other RAF Officials and representatives of NGOs were present at the event.
