World Kannada meet in Davanagere or Ballari

The state government plans to hold the third edition of the World Kannada meet or Vishwa Kannada Sammelana in July 2017 in Davanagere or Ballari.

"We have decided to hold the three-day event next year and Rs 30 crore has been set aside in the state budget for the purpose," Kannada and culture minister B Umashree told reporters on Thursday after a preliminary meeting chaired by chief minister Siddaramaiah. She said they had estimated the cost of the event to be Rs 35 crore and Siddaramaiah had said he would provide the additional funds.

The first meet was organised in Mysuru in 1985 and was inaugurated by renowned writer Shivaram Karanth. The second meet, held in Belagavi in 2011, was inaugurated by Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy.
