Coimbatore Journalist Arrested Under POCSO Act

Police registered a case under the POCSO Act against a journalist and remanded him to judicial custody following a complaint lodged by a minor girl’s family at the All Women Police Station. Further investigations are under way.


Coimbatore: According to police sources, a case has been registered against a 46-year-old journalist employed with a Tamil daily, under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The action was initiated after the minor girl’s parent lodged a complaint at the Coimbatore South All Women Police Station.

Preliminary investigations state that the arrested Journalist and the victim’s family were known to each other and resided in the same locality. The accused allegedly misused the acquaintance to lure the girl to his residence, where the sexual assault reportedly took place.

The accused was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigations are under way, sources confirmed.
