Cop looted of 23 sovereigns of gold, Rs 3Lakh


Burglars broke open a house belonging to a head constable, attached with state railway police in Coimbatore and decamped with 23.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 3 lakh from the house at KRG Nagar near Ganapathy here early Thursday morning.

Police said, the head constable was on night rounds and his wife and daughter were sleeping on the first floor of the house with the air-condition on and thus they did not hear the burglars enter the house.

R Sivachandran, 45, from KRG Nagar near Ganapathy is a head constable (special branch) attached with the state railway police in Coimbatore. He had left for work on Wednesday night. His wife, a school teacher and his daughter were sleeping on the first floor of the house.

At 1 am on Thursday, the burglars broke open the front door by using an iron tool and entered the ground floor where they noticed a steel bureau. They took away 23.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 3 lakh in cash from the house.
