The Southern Railway has rescheduled Coimbatore-Pollachi train services following representations from train users, commuters, and the student community.
The new schedule would be beneficial for commuters who are affected by sudden and steep bus fare hike which came into effect from Saturday.
As per the new arrangement, the Coimbatore - Pollachi special train would depart from Coimbatore at 5.15 am and reach Pollachi at 6.45 am and the Pollachi - Coimbatore train would leave 7.15 am and reach Coimbatore at 8.30 am.
Likewise, the evening train service would depart from Coimbatore at 6.00 pm and reach Pollachi at 7.15 pm and in the opposite direction, the train would leave from Pollachi at 7.45 pm to reach Coimbatore at 9.00 pm.
Since the train services were resumed in Coimbatore – Pollachi section after gauge conversion work on July 15, 2017, it was not popular with the commuters as the trains were run in the afternoon hours. Train users and students demanded that the train services be rescheduled to benefit the daily commuters.
The steep bus fare hike of Rs.27 (ordinary services) and Rs.34 for express services have adversely affected the commuters in a big way and they have welcomed the rescheduling of trains.
The train services would be operated on six days of the week, except on Sunday and would come in to effect immediately.
