Coimbatore, January 22
Believe it or not .. the understaffed Corporation Primary School, at Sarmedu near Karumbukadai, has over 100 students but only two teachers to handle the classes for all the students.

"The school is attended by the wards of the poor sections of the people and a Headmaster and a teacher is the whole staff strength to handle all the classes for class 1-5, which is disheartening“ say the parents of affected students.
“As there is no kitchen in the school, the noon meal is prepared near the stairs and the smoke enters the classrooms thus causing pollution in the classrooms," said Mohan Raj one of the parents.
When Government schools are being closed down one by one due to lack of students after the private schools mushroomed in various parts of the state, here is a school which boasts of a full strength, but lacks teaching hands to handle classes due to the apathy of officialdom.
“How one or to two school teachers can handle all the primary classes from one to five, and this would definitely affect the future of the students, who are sent to school to learn and not to idle away their time in the classrooms,” said another parent.
The City Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan should look into the issue and appoint more teachers for the school, which is wallowing due to neglect and official apathy.
