Coimbatore, January 20
The private agencies, who have been entrusted with the planting tree saplings in Anamalai Tiger Reserve have dumped plastics in mounds and converted the pristine forest into a dump yard.
District Forest officer Mohammed Sahab has engaged private agencies to plant tree saplings in the Udumalai and Amaravathi forest ranges. But instead of tidying up the place, after the work, the agency has littered many stretches with plastic bags, which might endanger the lives of animals.

"Over 5,000 plastic bags are lying in the forest area in mounds, and when an animal ingests it by mistake, they would die of stomach ailments or suffocation. The tribal people should be engaged in such tree planting operations within the forest area instead of hiring private agencies" said Murthy, a social activist.
