The Wildlife census began in Nilgiris Forest Division (North) and it would be conducted by the forest department personnel, in association with students of Government Forestry College, Mettupalayam and Government Arts College Ooty for the next seven days.

"Wildlife census have begun in the Nilgiris Forest Division (North) and it would be conducted by the forest department personnel in association with students of Government Forestry College, Mettupalayam and Government Arts College Ooty for the next seven days", said the officials from the forest department.
The census would be carried out by direct methods such animal sighting and also through indirect methods like counting footprints and feces of animals.
"The wildlife census is a biannual exercise", the officials added.
