Coimbatore, January 19
The over speeding of Omnibuses operated in and out of the city have become a cause for worry and threat to life for the thousands of morning walkers in the city.
Most of the inbound Omnibuses arrive in the early hours of the day when the morning walkers are busy carrying out their daily exercise.
Operating out of the Omnibus stand in Ganapathi, there are hundreds of these luxury buses which are operated every day around the clock.
The arterial Avinashi road is a favorite haunt of morning walkers and the Omnibuses which are passing by this way make them panicky as they sped by at breakneck speed ever after entering the city limits, making walkers taker cover and fear for life.
“The Omnibus operators throw all norms to the winds, and speed away in breakneck speed using bright head lights due to which the morning walkers are fearing for their lives.” Said, one worried walker.
“Both young and the old use Avinashi road for walking between 4 am to 6 am and we are even afraid to cross the road while walking, as the threat of over speeding Omnibuses are always there,” said another walker.
When SimpliCity contacted Sujit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) he said that "We are monitoring the over speeding omnibuses who pose a serious threat to the public and also violate traffic regulations. And we have also been receiving complaints from public on overspeeding buses. Spot fines have been slapped on over 20 bus operators so far".
“The work for pasting head light stickers on these omnibuses is also being carried out” the DCP said.
