Coimbatore, January 18
The fasting protest by Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar, (the 24th Jeeyar of Manavala Maamuni, madam) has entered the second-day urging Vairamuthu to tender an apology for his comments on Andal, the Vaishnavite Saint, and Poetess.

The Jeeyar had commenced his fasting protest condemning against Vairamuthu’s alleged derogatory remarks against Andal, and it has earned the wrath of Vaishanavites, who revered Andal as a Goddess.
Vaishnavites have reacted to the purported statement of Vairamuthu, with respect to Andal and are holding protests.
Quoting scholars from Indiana University, Vairamuthu had said at a recent function in Srivilliputhur that Andal might have been a devadasi, meaning a servant of God.
Even though Vairamuthu had clarified that his remarks were not aimed to injure the sentiments of any section, protests have gained momentum in various places including Delhi, the national capital.
Vaishnavites who sang Tiruppavai and protested in Coimbatore demand that Vairamuthu should tender his apologies after visiting Srivilliputhur temple.
