Nilgiris Collector Innocent Divya garlanded the statue of John Sullivan, the famed founder of Ooty on his death anniversary at his memorial in Konnerimukku in Kothagiri today.
The collector who visited the John Sullivan Memorial at Kothagiri paid respects to the British administrator who had founded a British settlement in Ooty, after carrying out his expedition in 1819 along with his party.
He had trekked through harsh terrain and crossed jungles for days along with his party and reached the place to establish a small British settlement.
Ooty Lake and the cultivation of horticultural crops and the introduction of English vegetables were some of his contribution to the now famous hill town.
