Over 50 inter -caste and inter-religious couples, joined hands and organized Pongal festivities in the city.
The couples who have consummated their marriage defying caste, religious barriers and thereby setting a good example for the young generation have been celebrating “Samathuva Pongal” since 1997 and it is going strong till then.
Traditional Tamil games like Pambaram, Pattam, and Uriyadithal were organised on the occasion apart from preparing Pongal.
Ironically, no relatives of the couples attended the festival but friends and their children attended the celebrations.
