Man trampled to death by Elephant near Mulli


Coimbatore Jan. 09

In a first death of humans caused by elephants in 2018, a 45-year-old man was killed by an elephant near the Mulli Checkpost in the early evening hours here today.

According to forest personnel, the deceased M. Selvam encountered an elephant while crossing the road near the checkpost in Karamadai Range around 6.15 p.m. The animal trampled him to death.

His body was retrieved and was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Notably more than 17 people were killed by elephants in 2017.
