Coimbatore, January 4
A group of 20 cycling enthusiasts that go by the name “UTR cycling”, from Udgir, Maharashtra who started a cycling expedition covering 1600 km from Udgir to Rameshwaram to spread awareness about “Rally for Rivers” reached the holy town on New Year day.

Starting the expedition on December 16 from Udgir the cyclists reached Rameshwaram on January 1, on New Year day. Along the way, the team visited Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore on Jan 4th (Thursday).
The team which used to organize cycling trips every year from Udgir to Tirupati on New Year’s’ Eve. But this year was special. When they came to know about "Rally for Rivers", they decided to do something for this noble cause and in that effort doubled their usual distance of 800 km to 1600 km.
The cycling enthusiasts covered five states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry. In Puducherry, they were met by the Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi who congratulated them for their effort. This was a highlight for the group.
They were received by ‘Rally for Rivers’ Volunteers in every town and city that they stopped at along the way with much delight and hospitality. They were especially touched by the support of people in Tamilnadu and in Puducherry.
They kept in touch with their town-folk through social media, which eventually led to the plantation of about 300 trees in their town as part of Rally for Rivers to encourage the cyclists even further.
