Auto drivers petition Police Commissioner to allocate "parking lot" in Railway Junction premises

Coimbatore, January 2

Over 40 auto drivers operating in front of the Railway Junction premises petitioned the City Police Commissioner, K. Periaiah to allocate separate parking space for their vehicles.

"In 2013, the auto drivers were asked to park their vehicle outside the railway junction until the renovation was completed. But now, they are asked to vacate the space now", lamented Guna, Executive Committee member of Hindu Munani Auto driver association.

Alleging that the officials did not keep up the promised deal and that separate parking space was allocated for a private cab aggregator inside the railway junction.

"At last, the auto drivers were left in the lurch by the Railway authorities", Mr. Guna said.

"The NMR locomotive was also installed in front of the railway junction which was eating away into the available space. Presently, the Railway authorities have requested the police personnel to vacate the auto drivers from the railway junction parking lot. The extreme step would endanger the livelihood measures of the auto operators”, he added.

It may be noted that the petition was submitted by the affected auto drivers even as talks were going on between the railway authorities and the affected auto drivers to resolve the issue.
