All Party meet decides to launch series of agitations against closure of Govt. of India Press

Coimbatore, Jan 2

At the all party meeting convened here on Monday at Periyar Padipakam in Gandhipuram it was unanimously decided to launch a series of agitations condemning against the proposed closure of Government of India Press functioning at Perianaickenpalayam, Coimbatore.

Presided over by K. Ramakrishnan, General Secretary of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) it was decided to launch picketing agitation in front of the press on January 6 and also observe bandh in the area on January 9.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said to the press that "The Press was started during the tenure of former Chief Minister, K Kamaraj in 1963 and has less than 100 employees now. The press was intended to increase job avenues for the local population but this decision to close down it would affect the livelihood of many families".

Representatives of political parties including DMK, CPI, CPM, TTV Dinakaran faction members took part in the meet.
