TNSTC bus and a truck caught in pits as road caves in near Singanallur

Coimbatore, Jan 1

Traffic was thrown out of gear for a brief period near Singanallur bus stand on Dec 31, Sunday after a TNSTC bus and a truck caught trapped in pits dug for Underground Drainage system (UGDS).

As earth caved in the recently-closed pits, the two vehicles were caught in the morass.

The TNSTC bus tilted to a dangerous angle but however did not topple. Fortunately, no passenger were injured in the accident.

According to sources, UGDS work has been on-going in full swing in the Kamarajar road stretch for the past three days which connects Singanallur and Varadarajapuram.

“The workers might not have not properly closed the pits dug for the purpose.  A breach which occurred in the pipeline might have loosened the earth and caused the earth to cave in", opine eyewitnesses.

The gaping holes which suddenly appeared in the stretch created a flutter in the area.
