A 75-year-old White Spotted Fig tree (ficus virens aiton) was transplanted from Ukkadam to Race Course here yesterday.
The tree was proving a hindrance to an alternative road that is being made along the banks of Kurichi Lake, which is to be used once the construction work of flyover begins near Ukkadam.

In order to transplant the tree, the branches of the tree were pruned. The tree was watered at the base to loosen the soil and was pulled out using an earth mover and was taken Race Course.
It was later transplanted at the Judges Training Centre campus there on the same day.
According to sources, the tree lets out a lot of oxygen and hosts a variety of birds.
