DMK (district unit) threatens to stage agitation if open pits are not closed in Nanjappa Nagar

Coimbatore, December 30

The district unit of the DMK would resort to agitation if the gaping pits, which have been dug out to lay cable by a private telecom company, are not closed in Nanjappa Nagar (on Coimbatore -Tiruchy Road), N. Karthik, MLA, and DMK (South District) Co-ordinator, said here today.

He said that pits dug by Airtel after getting tenders from City Corporation present a messy sight and are not closed even after two months. Not only it hinders the smooth flow of traffic but also might lead to accidents.

Karthik, who inspected the spot with his supporters, impressed upon Airtel officials to close the pits dotting all the streets in Nanjappa Nagar. The Singanallur legislator also said that in many places within the city open pits remain without being closed even after laying cables, which might lead to accidents.
