A felicitation function was organized for volunteers and ambassadors who helped in achieving cleanliness standards under Swacch Survekshan 2018.
Presided over by Coimbatore City Municipal Commissioner K. Vijaykarthikeyan, the function saw schools, hospitals, private organizations, vegetable market and shandy operators, and corporation drivers getting merit certificates for helping the cause of Swacch Bharat Mission.
The city corporation is taking part in the national ranking exercise for civic bodies on the basis of it cleanliness index and the objective of this ranking is to encourage public participation in achieving public sanitation.
As many as 4,041 civic bodies are to take part in the national ranking system designed by the Ministry of Urban Development. It may be noted Coimbatore city holds the 16th place in last year's ranking.
Popular film actor-director K. Bhagyaraj, and his wife Poornima Bhagyaraj took part in the function and released the ‘Swachh Coimbatore’ logo. Deputy Commissioner P. Gandhimathi also took part in the event.
