A convict, Ganapathi of Erode, who is in Coimbatore central prison, is alleged to have committed suicide.
Ganapathi was arrested in a theft case and was serving his sentence in the central prison. He used a cloth to hang himself in the prison cell.
Ganapathi was said to have been suffering from acute asthma.
Prison officials sent the body for post mortem to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
