Coimbatore, December 30

“The event ‘IDEATHON- 2017’ is all about igniting young minds and encouraging them to come up with innovative ideas to resolve problems confronting the human society and improve the quality of life,” said, R.G. Nawin Krishna, Founder, Rowthra- ‘The Youth Forum’ and #Startup Payanam, (a non-profit organisation to promote entrepreneurship and empowerment of youth and women).

He inaugurated the event along with Mr. Nalin Subramanian, Technical Director, SNS Group of Institutions, at SNS Engineering College here on Friday.

Mr.Nawin said that it is an ‘Intra- Institute Entrepreneurship Development Activity’ organised in association with SNS Group of Institutions to instil the spirit of innovation among students belonging to the SNS Institutions.

Nearly 420 teams comprising more than 1,600 participants including school students from SNS Educational Institutions have registered for the event. Among them, 49 teams were shortlisted for the three-day ‘Idea Validation Bootcamp’ commencing on December 29, he added.

Panelists from the industry shortlisted the teams for the boot camp. Out of the selected teams, nine teams consisted of school students. The event proved to be a unique platform to explore the ideas given by the students.

“Technology-enabled solutions to detect, diagnose and provide first aid treatment for cardiovascular diseases like heart attack is what prompted us to create a functional robot," said a gleaming Yaswant Raghavendar, a student from Class 8 SNS Academy .

Another idea was a device to to clean up water bodies. Davinus, a student from Class 8, said: "We call it 'Walking on Water'. The device is propelled by a battery and fitted with sensors to help in the cleaning process."

Another team from SNS Academy came up with an idea that would spread smiles - a vending machine called 'Edu Joy Maker'. The device would dole out gifts ranging from chocolates to toys, provided one answers the questions displayed on the machine screen.

The top 10 startup ideas will be rewarded, while the top 5 ideas will be funded. Winners will also go on trip abroad with the Technical Director of SNS Group of Institutions.

The non- stop 48 hour residential programme will conclude on December 31.
