Coimbatore, Dec 29
Babu (48), a farm labourer of Kodapamanthu in the Nilgiris district was electrocuted, when he came into contact with a live wire on Thursday.
Babu was unloading fertilizer from a truck when he touched an iron flag mast of AIADMK, which was in contact with a live wire and got electrocuted.
This mast was erected as part of the MGR Centenary celebrations scheduled for December 30 in the district.
The irate residents of Kodapamanthu resorted to road blockade seeking justice for the death of the farm laborer. They alleged that the temporary flag mast was erected as part of MGR Centenary celebrations in an unsafe manner.
Police pacified the agitators and a case was registered in this respect. It may be recalled that Raghupathi (32) of Chinniampalayam, near here, allegedly died when his two-wheeler ran into an ornamental arch erected for the MGR Centenary celebrations here a month ago.
"The ruling AIADMK is conducting MGR Centenary celebrations in every district and has been flouting all norms while doing so. The mushrooming of banners, festoons, and welcome arches prove a hindrance to traffic." say the affected denizens.
“Due to such a callous attitude of the ruling party members, two precious lives have been lost in the last one month alone" said social activists.
