Centre announcs Rs.133 crore Ockhi relief package to Tamil Nadu


Coimbatore, December 27

The Central Government has announced an interim package of Rs.133 crore as Ockhi relief as a rehabilitation measure to cyclone-hit areas of Tamil Nadu.

The Ockhi fury was mostly witnessed in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kanyakumari district was one of the worst affected. Thousands of acres of cash crops such as rubber, teak, and plantain were destroyed in Ockhi onslaught, which also threw normal life out of gear in many districts.

The Centre has announced that the second instalment of relief would be announced on the basis of the report submitted by the Central committee which visited the cyclone hit areas.

It may be recalled that Tamil Nadu Government has sought a relief package of Rs. 9, 300 crores from the Centre for Ockhi relief measures in the state.
