Coimbatore, December 26
The premises of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) has been brought under CCTV camera surveillance and as many as 74 CCTV cameras have been installed in the hospital, said Dr. Ashokan, hospital Dean."Over 8,000 outpatients visit the hospital every day and 1,500 inpatients are being treated in the hospital regularly. The past unsavoury incidences involving outsiders barging into the hospital at odd hours and threatening the hospital staff has led to the new security measures put in place," Dr. Ashokan clarified.
"To avoid incidences of trespassing into the premises, the surveillance mechanism is being introduced which, in turn will help identify the visitors," he said.
The CCTV surveillance would also help identify the miscreants and anti-social elements and help file police complaints in case of trespassing and rioting within the hospital, the Dean said. He cited past instances in which total strangers have created a ruckus within the hospital campus. In the past, some unidentified persons who barged into the hospital had tried to assault the Resident Medical officer and other hospital staff.
“Recurring incidences of the kin of the relatives physically threatening the hospital staff in case of the death of a patient have also led to the surveillance mechanism being inducted in the hospital premises,” Dr. Ashokan explained..
