State-level skating championship kicks off

Coimbatore, December 25

The qualifying rounds of the 27th Tamilnadu State Roller Skating Championship commenced at the VOC grounds here today.



Over 1200 roller skaters of both sexes categorized into seven age categories representing 32 districts of state took part in the qualifying rounds. The event spanning over three days will conclude on Thursday.



P. Ramanathan, Member of Tamilnadu Roller Skating Association, said that the championship is being organised in the textile city after 18 years and the spectator enthusiasm has been on the high side. A large number of spectators have gathered at the venue which shows the passion for the sport among the city denizens.



“The people of Coimbatore have shown great enthusiasm in taking to the sport in good numbers in recent years. Thanks to the special skating rink and infrastructure facilities being created in the city, we expect that good number of participants would compete in future competitions and championships in the coming years and bring laurels to the city,” Ramanathan said.
