Top officials from armed forces and Coimbatore District Collector pay last respects to martyr

Coimbatore, December 23

Top officials from armed forces and Coimbatore District Collector T.N. Hariharan paid their last respects to soldier Moorthy who died in an avalanche in Kashmir valley while guarding Line of Control on December 9.

Wreaths were laid and the martyr was given gun salute by army men at the city airport today.



Due to bad weather, retrieving his body by army suffered a setback initially and finally army had managed to recover his body on December 19.



The martyr belongs to a village called Nadipatti near Karur and is survived by two sons, Subikeshan (5) and Kavin (3) and wife Tamilarasi.

His mortal remains kept in a decorated coffin reached Coimbatore airport by evening today before being taken by road to his native village where his last rites will be performed tomorrow.

Addressing media after paying his last respects to the martyr, District Collector has said the mortal remains of the soldier Moorthy will be kept for a whole day tomorrow for people to pay their last respects and cremation will take place in the evening with full state honours.
