In two separate anti-drug operations in Coimbatore on Saturday, the Periyanaickenpalayam Police and the Coimbatore City Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) arrested four persons for the alleged possession and trafficking of ganja. A total of 5.6 kg of cannabis was seized, and all four accused were remanded to judicial custody.
Coimbatore: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics, the Coimbatore City Police arrested four persons in two separate ganja seizure cases on Saturday, recovering a total of 5.6 kg of cannabis. All four accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
In the first case, personnel attached to the Periyanaickenpalayam Police Station were conducting surveillance to curb the circulation of narcotic substances when they received information about ganja being sold near the Kuppichipalayam Railway Overbridge.
Acting on the tip-off, the police rushed to the spot and intercepted two suspects near a tree opposite a milk booth. During the search, officers allegedly recovered 1.5 kg of ganja that had been kept for sale.
The accused were identified as Jogeswar Bag (26), a native of Odisha residing near the Government Middle School at Kasthuripalayam and employed at a private company, and Karthik (31) of Kasthuri Naickenpalayam in Coimbatore.

A case was registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, following which they were produced before a court and remanded to the Coimbatore Central Prison.
In the second case, the Coimbatore City Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) arrested two more persons near IOB Colony, Maruthamalai Adivaram in Vadavalli at around 10.30 a.m. on Saturday.

The accused, Gokulnath (24), originally from Krishnagiri and currently residing at Kavundampalayam, and Vasanth (24) of Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore, were intercepted while travelling on a two-wheeler. During the vehicle check, police allegedly recovered 4.1 kg of ganja from their possession.
A case was registered against the duo under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B) and 25 of the NDPS Act. They were arrested and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
With the two operations, the Coimbatore City Police seized a total of 5.6 kg of ganja, reaffirming their continued enforcement drive against the illegal trafficking and sale of narcotic substances across the city.
