Increasing leopard prowl in Valparai, residents asked to remain indoors

Coimbatore, December 22

Following a leopard prowling into an estate in Valparai and killing a deer, the Forest officials have asked the residents of the town not to send their children outside their homes in the evening.

Of late, cheetahs have been entering the residential areas and have preyed on cattle, goats and poultry. Last week, in Akkamalai 2nd Division, a leopard entered the quarters of the tea estate workers causing panic among the residents. One of the residents Sangeetha, lost her balance and fell down, as the leopard ran past her behind a dog, and sustained serious injuries in her leg.

The Forest officials have also asked the residents to be careful if they have to go out at night.
