Coimbatore District – second in Post Matric Scholarships Scheme in the state

Coimbatore, December 21

Coimbatore ranks number two when it comes to the implementation of Post Matric Scholarships Scheme, guaranteed by the Tamilnadu Government Order 92 ( G.O.92), S.Maduranthagi, Revenue Divisional Officer, Coimbatore (South), said at Nirmala Arts and Science College here today.

As per G.O.92, no fee shall be collected from SC/ ST and SC Christian converts whose parental income per annum is less than Rs two lakhs.

She was addressing a gathering of representatives of private colleges and schools of the Coimbatore District at a function organised by District Adi Dravidar and Tribal welfare Department to create an awareness about G.O.92 and its implementation by the educational institutions in the district.

She called upon the managements of the private, self- financing and government aided colleges and schools to implement the Post Matric Scholarships scheme guaranteed by G.O.92 in an effective and proper manner.

It is incumbent upon private colleges not to collect fees from the students who are the eligible beneficiaries under the scheme at the time of admission and students should be admitted after scrutinising their community and income certificates, she stressed

Post Matric Scholarships Scheme guaranteed by G.O.92 is implemented by the state government of Tamilnadu with 100 per cent assistance from central government.

Mr.Senthivel, Deputy Collector, called upon the management and principals of the private colleges to ensure no eligible beneficiary is deprived of the benefits guaranteed under the Post Matric Scholarships Scheme.

While the awareness among the G.O.92, and Post Matric Scholarships Scheme among educational institutions have been on the rise in recent years, it deserves proper implementation as the scheme is being envisaged for the empowerment of marginalised sections of the society, stressed Mr. Selvakumar, a member of Tamilnadu State Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Committee.

Representatives from more than 400 schools and colleges from the Coimbatore District took part in the programme.
