Two-way Brooke Bond Road receives public approbation: DC,Traffic

Coimbatore, December 14

The decision to make Krishnaswamy Road (Brooke Bond Road) two-way road again has been welcomed by people from different walks of life, Sujith Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Traffic, said here today.

This is a road that connects the Avinashi Road flyover to North Coimbatore and Mettupalayam Road. It was made a one-way in 2015. Subsequently, vehicles from Avinashi Road plying towards Mettupalayam Road were diverted towards the Flower Bazaar Road and Gandhipuram-North Coimbatore flyover. Since all the vehicles reaching Mettupalayam Road passed through this Road, led to extreme traffic congestion in the area.

Thus, there were repeated requests from the public that Brooke Bond Road be made two-way. Subsequently, Commissioner of Police, K. Periaiah and Sujith Kumar, DCP Traffic, inspected the area to decide if it was possible to make it a two-way road yet again. On December 9, Brooke Bond Road became two-way after setting up barricades and dividers.

While some people feel otherwise, majority of the people including general public, trade bodies and autorickshaw associations have been in favour of the decision, pointed out Sujith Kumar.

A welcome change

Ever since the road was made two-way, people from different walks of life have been commuting with ease on the Brooke Bond Road. They feel that this move has eased the traffic congestion to a great extent. But some feel that the traffic has increased. In fact, when the road was one-way, vehicles could move without much hassle. But now, the change has led to traffic congestion.

Kikani Junction

There is fairly high number of vehicles going towards Avinashi Road flyover from Mettupalayam Road when compared to the other three roads at the Kikani Junction. As a result, it has been decided that more time will allocated to the vehicles on this road at the Kikani Junction signal. For this purpose, a manual control device will be attached to the signal within a week, said  Mr. Sujith Kumar.
