A wild elephant that strayed into human habitations today was guided back into the Reserve Forest by the Forest personnel of the Mettupalayam Range, of Coimbatore Forest Division.
According to Forest Department sources, a female elephant has ventured out from Nellimalai Reserve Forest by crossing the main road near Bathrakaliyamman Temple, in the early hours today.
The pachyderm started moving into populated areas creating panic among villagers. Based on a tip-off by local people, field staff of Mettupalayam Forest Range arrived at the spot and started guiding the animal back into the Reserve using crackers and by making noise.
On the way, the animal had damaged a few vehicles including a tractor and a moped, but did not cause any harm to people.
It was ultimately guided into the Nellimalai Reserve forest.
