Seven teams have been formed to investigate the five burglary attempts that have taken place over the last 25 days in Coimbatore,Commissioner of Police K. Periaiah told media persons here today.
There are more than 1,000 ATMs across the city belonging to various banks. Some ATMs have security guards but many of them are only protected by surveillance cameras. Taking advantage of the same, anti-social elements try to break into the ATMs at night.
Over the last 25 days, five burglary attempt cases in ATMs have been registered.
On Saturday, some persons broke into an ATM of a private bank near Hope College and decamped with Rs. 3.25 lakh. While the Peelamedu police are investigating, another burglary attempt case in ATM in the same area also came to light.
The Commissioner said: "The faces of the culprits in the Hope College ATM case have been recorded on camera. Also, the number plate of the car they used has been recorded. But it turned out to be a bogus number plate. We have constituted seven teams to investigate the case."
