Coimbatore, December 11
Bharathi Pasarai Amaippu honoured writer P. S. Mani with the Bharathi Award on Sunday. The event was held here as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of the poet and freedom fighter Subramaniya Bharathi.

Mohan Shanker, president, presented the award. Speaking on the occasion,Mr. Mani said: "In the Sangam period, there was the practice of recognising the works by writers purely on the basis of merit. I am glad that I have been chosen in a similar manner. Of the 79 novels written by me, 29 are on Bharathi," he said.

He presented four of the novels to the Association. He added that he would present his forthcoming novels and the articles by Bharathiar to the Association.
On the occasion, 'Nanbargal Ninaivil Bharathiyar', a book by Ilasai Manian, researcher on Bharathiar, was also released.
