Rahul Gandhi elevated as Congress president

Rahul Gandhi is now the Indian National Congress president. The party tweeted the announcement.

"All India Congress Committee's Central Election Authority officially announces Rahul Gandhi as the President of the Indian National Congress," it said.

Rahul Gandhi, who had filed his nominations on December 4, was the sole candidate for the post. He will take the position from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who had held the post since 1998.
