Four passengers from Ernakulam district were feared to have drowned when the car in which they were travelling plunged into a canal after it lost control near Pollachi today. Fire and Rescues Services has recovered three bodies while one person is missing.

Initial reports state that five people travelling in the car were from Munnar. While their car came near Kedimedu canal, Pollachi, at around 7:15 am, the driver lost control and hence the vehicle plunged into the canal.
A milk van driver, Karthikeyan, who was cleaning his truck in the canal, managed to save Alpa(20), one of the inmates of the car.
The Fire and Rescue Services and the Police Department began a joint search for the remaining four passengers who are feared to have drowned in the 11 feet canal. The local public who have gathered in large numbers at the spot are also aiding them in the search operation. So far three bodies have been recovered. The team has also recovered the car. This operation hit the traffic on the Udumalpet-Pollachi Road for some time.
