Advocates demand installation of a statue for Ambedkar

Coimbatore, Dec 6

Dressed like Dr. Ambedkar, more than 10 advocates demanded that the city administration should accord permission to install a statue in memory of Dr. Ambedkar.

The advocates, who belong to the Samooga Needhi Katchi dressed like Dr. Ambedkar, stood still in front of the combined district court here today in a bid to generate awareness among the public regarding Dr. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution of India.

They pointed out that while all political parties have extended their support to install the statue, the Police Department is yet to grant permission.

"Without obtaining due permission, the statues of former CMs Jayalalithaa and MGR have been installed near Anna Silai. But unfortunately, the genuine demand to install a statue for the legend like Dr. Ambedkar is continually been ignored", they lamented.
