Nursing room in Mettupalayam Road bus stand encroached by bus crew

Coimbatore, Dec.6

The nursing room at the Mettupalayam Road bus stand is being used as resting rooms by government and private bus crew.

This ISI certified bus stand is equipped with a nursing room that is used by numerous women passengers everyday for feeding their children. The room to open from 6.am to 6 p.m. However, bus drivers and conductors have their lunch outside the nursing room in the afternoon forcing mothers to refrain from using the room.

“They make a lot of noise and the babies become restless. Also, the nursing room has glass doors that makes it difficult for women and children to use the room, owing to lack of privacy,” says Gomathi, a passenger. If requested to sit elsewhere, the crew don’t oblige. Creating a small partition in front of the nursing room could be a solution, women passengers suggested.

At night, the nursing room turns into a bar room to drink liquor, according to a female employee at the bus stand. Such encroachers should be strictly punished for causing such inconvenience, the women passengers plead.
