The inauguration of the photo exhibition by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) marked the beginning of the MGR Centenary celebrations here today.

Minister for Municipal Administration, S.P. Velumani along with Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Pollachi V. Jayaraman , inaugurated the photo exhibition. The ministers paid floral tributes to the portraits of former CMs MGR and J. Jayalalithaa.

Rare photographs of MGR with great personalities like Pope John Paul Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi, Periyar, Kamaraj, NT Rama Rao, and pictures of his participation in the 5th World Tamil Conference in Madurai, his speeches in the Assembly, fasting for Sri Lankan Tamils, and more are on display.
Some personal pictures of MGR being sworn in as Chief Minister, a picture of the leader in conversation with former CM Jayalalithaa, a family picture of MGR and his wife Janaki, iconic images of MGR from his hit movies like Naalai Namadhe, Adimaipenn, etc. are colourfully showcased.

Among the stalls, the decoration of MGR statue with vegetables by the Department of Horticulture was a show stopper. A model of Vellalore bus stand by the Department of Rural Administration, stalls by Transport and School Education Departments showcasing their achievements are also on display.
