Coimbatore, Dec 3
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has urged the State Government to give importance to English phonetics and reduce the content in Tamil subject. “The reduction in content in languages will facilitate children to gain the skills of the language rather than rote learning of the content,” it has said in its Syllabus Enhancement Recommendations to the Department of Education.
The CII has come up with an array of recommendations to the recently updated Draft School Syllabus that was released by the School Education Department of Tamil Nadu.
In the suggestions submitted to Pradeep Yadav, Principal Secretary of School Education Department, Tamil Nadu, during the CII School Education Conference titled, ‘School Leadership for the 21st Century’, held in the City today various changes have been recommended. But they did not recommend any change for the syllabi of Business Maths and Maths for 12th standard and Physics, Accountancy and Business Maths for 11th standard as the changes planned with regard to these subjects were "adequate".

The team, headed by the Education Sub Committee of CII, has suggested including ‘Application of Maths in Real Life’, as it would help students of 9th and 10th understand Maths practically. The re-introduction of Science Paper I and Paper II is also a suggestion to help the students of class 12 to gain elaborate knowledge in Science.

In order to increase social awareness of students, topics like Our Government, Rural Governing Bodies and Road Safety for class V have been suggested.. Introduction of Indian Agriculture for class IX was also sought.
The team has also recommended addition and deletion of various portions in the subjects according to their relevance.
“Gradation of the syllabi has been overall satisfying for the team and if the new suggestions are incorporated, it would be a good upgradation,” said R. Nandini, Chairperson of Education Sub Committee of CII, Southern Region.
