Coimbatore, Nov 30
As heavy rains battered several parts of the Nilgiris district, many trees got uprooted and power lines snapped causing severe inconvenience to the public. Several places in Coonoor experienced day-long power cuts after trees crashed on transformers. Telephone connections also snapped in many areas.

Due to the incessant showers coupled with gusty winds, the temperatures dropped to less than 12 degree celsius. People in many areas had to bear the cold as they couldn't use their room heaters due to power cut.
A rescue team was put on alert to keep a check on landslides and to clear the uprooted trees. Due to the rains, an old tree has been uprooted at the Botanical Garden, Ooty.

The cyclone Ockhi has already resulted in wide-spread devastation in Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, especially Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram districts. As warned by the meteorological department, intermittent and heavy showers have been reported in several parts of both the states.
