Coimbatore, Nov 29
"A majority of the traffic issues could be resolved if the citizens observe traffic rules. Among the total number of accidents, Tamil Nadu alone contributes 12%. This shows the lack of awareness and indifferent attitude of the people towards abiding to traffic rules", said a senior traffic officer from the city.
In an effort to instil the right traffic sense among the citizens, the city traffic police department has decided to distribute awareness pamphlets to the motorists at all vantage points. The pamphlets would carry messages on road safety, wearing helmets and safe driving.
On November 27, pamphlets were distributed to the public at various locations under the jurisdiction of Peelamedu police station.
S. Murugan, Sub-inspector (traffic), headed the awareness campaign held on Variety Hall road on November 28.

Building of wider roads is not the only solution for easing traffic. The road users have to learn to adhere to traffic rules at all times. Citing inconvenience, motorists refrain from wearing helmet, and there are impatient motorists who rush through the signals causing fatal accidents. According to reports, most of the fatal accidents are caused due to traffic violations", a traffic official said.
