Jallikkattu inquiry commission: affidavits are in favour of police

Coimbatore, Nov. 28

"So far, the affidavits received here have been in favour of the police. People should come forward to lodge their complaints regarding the violence they witnessed", urged Justice S. Rajeswaran, former Judge of the Madras High Court who heads the one man inquiry commission to probe the violence that erupted on January 23, suspected to be in favour of jallikkattu.

As reported earlier, the chairman began the second phase of probe here today.

"As of now, 50 people have submitted their affidavits, out of which we have sent summons to 39 people. Fearing consequences and threat from police, people should not refrain from recording their statements", the chairman said.

"The police should not threaten the people who submit affidavits against them. Only under such circumstances can people approach the commission anytime and record the complaints", he added.

Preliminary investigation would begin with the public first and later with the police, he announced.

The inquiry would be conducted in Madurai next month, he added.
