Coimbatore, Nov 27
Around 1000 cannabis plants were destroyed by the forest officials in Kurumalai forest area near Annamalais on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off, a 100-member special team led by District Forest Officer Muhammed Shabab identifed the cannabis plants and set them ablaze.

The officials had to travel in a challenging terrain for more than six hours to reach the particular spot which is more than 5 hours from Udumalpet.
The team has planned to conduct more such inspections to rule out possibilities of cannabis plantation in near by forests. An enquiry would be conducted to identify the people involved in such plantations, the officials said.
